Modern lives have created a new focus on beauty and personal care, attracting a large number of customers to cosmetics. The demand for natural-ingredient skincare products is continuously rising. Seaweeds are a key source of in-demand active chemicals that have a wide range of uses. Many scientific studies have demonstrated the potential skincare characteristics of seaweed bioactive components, leading to a surge in the usage of seaweed-derived substances in cosmetic products in recent years. The potential skincare effects of seaweed bioactive components are highlighted in this review. The first part of the review focuses on the mechanisms involved in skin problems such as hyperpigmentation, premature skin ageing, and acne, while the second part highlights the promising application of seaweeds in skin protection by highlighting the bioactive compound responsible for their bioactivity.
