Muhammad Tahir, Dianne R Lochocki and Jose Raul Estrada

Hepatic portal venous gas (HPVG) is usually caused by air entry into the portal venous tributaries from the bowel lumen or due to the presence of gas-forming bacteria in portal system. In the past many years, the appearance of gas in the portal venous system was considered as a life threatening but more recently is of less concern
as it is also present in both iatrogenic and benign conditions. Regardless of the cause, it is imperative to rule out the life threatening etiologies. Here we describe a case of an asymptomatic patient with HPVG who presented with unusual pathology
